In Episode 235, Team 7 was seen sailing to Doutou Island with Kagura and his detainees to seek members of the Funato clan. Their boat, however, was intercepted by pirates prowling the area. While everyone else tried to stay hidden, Kawaki was unable to do so and emerged from the shadows, panting for oxygen. Fortunately, the shinobis had little trouble neutralizing the guards. The pirate clan held people hostage on the island and forced them to work, and the gang quickly discovered that the situation was far worse than they had anticipated.

Despite Boruto’s desire to visit the island, Mitsuki and Sarada chose to travel instead. They reasoned that recon would be more prudent before confronting the pirate clan members.
