What are Welcome to Flatch Filming Locations? ‘Welcome to Flatch’ is a hilarious mockumentary series based on the hit British show ‘This Country,’ which won a BAFTA award. The show, created by Jenny Bicks, is set in a fictional midwestern town called Flatch, where a documentary crew investigates the lives of the area’s strange and fascinating citizens. The documentary’s major focus is on Shrub Mallet and Kelly Mallet, cousins who also happen to be best friends. Although the town may not have much going on, it is not the worst location to be!

The comedic show, which stars Holmes, Sam Starley, Seann William Scott, and Aya Cash, depicts the life of a little town in Ohio and makes viewers want to be a part of it or at the very least visit it! Where is the Welcome to Flatch Filming Locations? Before settling on ‘Welcome to Flatch,’ the show shared a name with its British counterpart. The Fox production was shot entirely in North Carolina. The first season of ‘Welcome to Flatch’ began production in March 2020. However, due to some restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the crew had to leave after only one day of shooting. However, the crew forged forward and used the material from a single day to create a 10-minute presentation for Fox, earning the show a 14-episode order!

“That is such a compliment to the performers,” creator Jenny Bicks said during a panel discussion at SXSW Austin. These men all took it in stride. It was a full-on, let’s put on a show situation, and it was a lot of fun, but we didn’t anticipate to film for only one day.” Production on the 1st season of the show started in late 2020, many months after the hiatus. Filming took place throughout North Carolina until early 2021 at a variety of locations, including Pender County, Duplin County, New Hanover County, and Brunswick County. Here’s a deep closer look at the specific filming locations!

1. New Hanover County, North Carolina

A substantial amount of the episode is shot in Wilmington, North Carolina, a port city in Hanover County. Several sequences for the 1st season of the comedy series were shot at Double Happiness, a well-known Chinese restaurant at 4403 Wrightsville Avenue. Pender Avenue, Plaza Drive, and Kelly Road were also used as filming locations for “Welcome to Flatch.”

The camera crew of the mockumentary series spends a lot of time in New Hanover County, which was founded in 1729. Several more films, including ‘Sleeping with the Enemy,’ ‘Trick or Treat,’ and ‘The Marc Pease Experience,’ have been shot in the county over the years.

2. Pender County, North Carolina

In ‘Welcome to Flatch,’ the town of Burgaw in Pender county serves as the setting for numerous key sequences. The show’s filming in Burgaw began in November 2020 and lasted in February 2021, according to Cody Suggs, Director of Burgaw Parks and Recreation.

Bishop Rayford Hankins Memorial Park, 310 North Walker Street, W. Ross Harrell Memorial Park, 108 East Ashe Street, and Olde Carolina Eatery, 113 West Fremont Street, are all notable locations in Burgaw, where season 1 filming took place. Along with several local residences, the Macedonia AME Church (300 North Walker Street), Burgaw United Methodist Church (110 East Bridgers Street), and the historic Burgaw Train Depot (103-201 South Dudley Street) were used for filming. Aside from Burgaw, several additional areas in Pender County have been used for filming.

3. Duplin County, North Carolina

The town of Wallace, in Duplin County, is the setting for several sequences in the show. Surprisingly, Pender County also includes a small piece of the town of Wallace. For the mockumentary series, the production team employs many locales in Duplin County as backdrops.

4. Winnabow, North Carolina

Winnabow is a small farming village in Brunswick County, North Carolina that serves as an appropriate setting for the setup of the show, which is set in a fictional Ohioan little town. Brunswick Nature Park, Brunswick Town State Historic Site, Orton Plantation Gardens, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, and Lighthouse Pentecostal Church are just a few of the beautiful tourist attractions in the vicinity. A couple of scenes from ‘One Tree Hill’ and ‘Dawson’s Creek’ were also recreated in this charming setting.
