Heather understands that she should have examined the letter sooner rather than waiting until her friends died to do so. Heather’s real name is Edith Rose Sawyer, according to Verna Carson’s letter, which ties the narrative to the original story.

Apart from Jed, Edith Rose Sawyer, Loretta Sawyer’s daughter, is the last surviving member of the Sawyer family. As a result, Heather, or Edith, is the legal inheritor of the estate. Heather also builds the story from the ground up, based on the letter and the case files. Leatherface was a concern for the residents of Newt. Burt Hartman and the gang, following the plot of the first film, set fire to the Sawyer house. Gavin rescued and adopted Edith, while Verna was aware of her presence.

The massacre, according to the first film, took occurred in August of 1973. And, according to the date on Verna’s tombstone, the events of this film take place in 2012. Heather (or Edith) should be in her forties, based on her age. However, Alexandra Daddario’s characterization of her is that of a twentysomething woman. It’s fine that the director wanted to go back to the roots and depict a campy teen slasher scare.

However, due to the incorrect timeline, the film loses part of its allure when placed canonically. Despite the fact that the film has a 90s vibe to it, it is set in the present day, and Heather is still in her early twenties.

Heather asks Deputy Carl for assistance on the way. Carl invites her into the van, but we subsequently learn that he is Burt’s son. On Burt’s directions, Carl brings Heather to the old Sawyer butcher farm. Jed hears Marvin’s radio signal and rushes to the butchery to kill Burt. When he arrives on the scene, Heather is bound and gagged. Despite Jed’s attempts to start the chainsaw, he retreats while inspecting Heather’s chest mark.

Burt and his associate capture Leatherface from behind as Jed is liberating Heather. They bind him to a massive grater, and Heather flees the scene, only to return later to save cousin Jed. Leatherface is shown in the film as a tortured anti-hero who, with the help of Heather, gives the mayor a taste of his own medicine. Jed quickly slices Burt’s legs off at the machine’s mouth, and the remainder of his body falls on the grater’s teeth. Burt Hartman passes away on the set. Sheriff Hooper, remembering a previous horror, turns a blind eye to the death. Furthermore, he believes Burt would have treated Heather and Jed the same way, and his moral judgment weighs heavily on the Sawyer family.
