Who Killed Evelynne Derricott?

Well, there were no traces of a struggle or forced entry into the house, which the authorities discovered. Except for Evelynne’s heart medicine, nothing of value was missing, according to the show. The garage, on the other hand, was a different story. The killer appeared to have fled in Evelynne’s automobile, giving the cops a trail to pursue. A shoeprint on the ladder in the garage was the only other piece of evidence discovered other than the bloody hammer.

The steering wheel and hammer were then submitted for touch DNA testing.

The hammer and the steering wheel both had the same unidentifiable male DNA profile, indicating that the killer was acting alone. At the moment, however, there were no matches in the database. It took the authorities until 2016 to make an arrest. They employed familial DNA analysis at the time to find persons who were linked to the unidentifiable profile they discovered.

The authorities were able to track down Rogelio Diaz Jr. by putting together a family tree. He had a connection to someone who was already in the database. Rogelio also matched the suspect profile the investigators had, and his listed residence, according to the episode, was in the neighbourhood where Evelynne’s car was discovered. He was caught in May 2016 when he was roughly 23 years old. Rogelio, on the other hand, denied any involvement in the crime and said he never set foot inside Evelynne’s home or car.

Where is Rogelio Diaz Jr?

Rogelio was allegedly surprised by Evelynne while attempting to break into her home, according to the authorities. So, in a panic, he smacked her in the head numerous times before fleeing the scene. Rogelio pleaded guilty to lesser counts of manslaughter and aggravated burglary in December 2019, just before the trial was set to begin. He was sentenced to one year to fifteen years in prison and five years to life in prison. Rogelio is still detained at the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, according to prison records.
