When Ashley Stayner’s father died in a car accident in 1989, she was only a preschooler. However, as she grew older, she discovered more about his extraordinary life and everything he had to endure. The extraordinary story of Steven Stayner, who was kidnapped when he was only seven years old, is told in Hulu’s ‘Captive Audience.’ But it took seven years and the kidnapping of another child for Steven to return home safely. Ashley appears in the docuseries and tells stories about what she has learned about her father. So, if you’re curious about Ashley’s current location, here’s what we know.
Who is Ashley Stayner?
Steven Stayner and Jody Edmondson, who married in 1985, had Ashley. Ashley’s father had died by the time she was three years old, but he had left behind an astounding narrative of survival. Stanley was kidnapped in 1972 and spent nearly seven years being abused by his abductor before escaping in 1980 alongside a 5-year-old kidnapping victim.
Ashley, on the other hand, had only vague memories of her father because she was so young when he died. Her family wasn’t much help as she grew up because they didn’t want to talk about it. “I grew up learning everything about my father and his entire biography through the media,” Ashley remarked recently. It’s really fascinating to learn how the human mind works and how the environment can shape someone’s personality.”
In 1999, Steven’s brother, Cary, killed four women and ultimately confessed to the murders, bringing the Stayner family back into the spotlight. The family has had to cope with the media analysing the story numerous times over the years. Ashley, however, stated in a recent interview that when she was approached about appearing in the documentary, she thought it would be a great opportunity to try something new. Ashley also mentioned her grandmother as a source of support.
Where is Ashley Stayner Now?
Ashley, who is now in her 30s, lives in Atwater, California. “I think real crime reveals the different aspect of what humans can be,” she says, admitting to being a true crime lover. Ashley, like her brother Steven Jr., was a member of the military, serving in the United States Air Force for four years between 2007 and 2011. Aside from that, she appears to have attended a military college. A few years ago, Ashley reportedly dealt with more tragedy when she lost her partner. Ashley now lives with her kid and is solely responsible for her upbringing.
