She outsmarts Pam by calling the cops as soon as she’s alone at home and telling them everything about the strange encounter. Pam, on the other hand, picks up Louis Gumpenberger, a mentally and physically challenged guy, pulls him into her home, then claims self-defense before opening fire.

Pam reveals her objective when she mentions Russell “Russ” Faria, painting him as a scumbag who paid Louis to kidnap her in exchange for the insurance money his late wife Betsy left in her name. Pam even stuffs $900 and a handwritten letter into his pocket for this purpose, only to have it backfire when the former is later linked to the money she has in her possession according to the sequence numbers. Furthermore, the officers in command correctly protect the crime scene, and after they learn who she is, they meticulously follow the legal process.

Russ wasn’t in town at the time, and there’s no proof linking him to Louis or the message discovered with his remains, so he’s free to go. Pam is apprehended for the homicide of the other, after which she pretends to attempt suicide by stabbing herself in the neck and wrists with a pen point. Pam had first pleaded not guilty, but instead of facing a jury trial, she entered an Alford guilty plea in accordance with court procedures.
