Alex Prud’homme, Julia’s great-nephew, also wrote about Julia and Paul’s alleged homophobic sentiments. He forwarded Julia’s letter to Beck, in which she expressed her fear that having gays in the kitchen would prevent “real male guys” from partaking in exquisite cuisine. In 1992, Daniel Coulter filed a complaint against Julia, accusing her of being homophobic for allegedly turning down a job proposal from the American Institute for Wine and Food, which was co-founded by the renowned chef. Julia responded to the complaint by claiming that she didn’t know Coulter and was uninvolved in the institute’s hiring practices. Despite this, she was regarded as a hero by the LGBT community of her time, especially after the success of her television show, ‘The French Chef,’ as represented in ‘Julia.’
