Xiaomi is currently working on a new entry-level smartphone that will extend it’s budget lineup. Identified as Redmi S2, the specifications of the smartphone has been revealed as per a latest report by XDA-developers who managed to obtain the firmware files. Xiaomi Redmi S2 will slot in as a camera smartphone just below Redmi Note 5. Running on Andrid 8.1 Oreo this device will be launched in Indian and Chinese markets as revealed in firmware files.
Revealed specifications suggest that Redmi S2 will have dual camera setup of 20MP + 12MP at the rear panel. It will sport a HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Though, we don’t know the size of the display at the moment. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor which also runs Redmi Note 5, Mi Max 2, and Mi A1 smartphones is going to power this device. Redmi S2 is likely to come up with a base variant of 16GB onboard storage and 2GB of RAM. Other variant could possibly have 32GB ROM and 3GB RAM given the chipset specs. There’ll be a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
Camera specs are quite impressive, at-least on paper. Redmi S2 will have a rear dual camera setup with a 12MP Sony IMX486 or 12MP OmniVision OV12A10 as the primary sensor and a 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 as the secondary sensor. Some of the main camera features are Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), Portrait Mode and Face Unlock. A 3080 mAh battery will last one day given the fact that this device has a low display resolution and a power efficient Snapdragon 625 as chipset.

Xiaomi may ditch the Fingerprint sensor in the wake of Face unlock system to reduce the cost of the device. Connectivity options with Redmi S2 are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS and micro-USB support. This phone will be released in India and China. As far as pricing is concerned the Xiaomi Redmi S2 might cost Rs 8,999 for the 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM variant. More details to be unfolded soon.
