Sri Lanka vs South Africa 1st ODI: Rabada and Shamsi finds a way to win

After the huge loss in both the Test matches against Sri Lanka, the Proteas made their winning moment in the first ODI. The loss in the first Test match was by 299 runs while Lankans won the second match by 199 runs. The Africans didn’t understand what’s going on however it could be a matter of home ground and bowling conditions. The spin bowling prevailed in the test series for the Lankans which gave them the celebration to make.

Talking of yesterdays’ game or the first ODI between the teams, it was a win-win situation for the both. However, the Proteas overcome the spin bowling of mighty Lankans and got their first win of the series. Meanwhile, in the ODI warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI, they succeed in winning. Both the bowlers and batsmen of the South African team gave a strong performance. This performance was seen in yesterdays’ match also.

It can be said as a good winning because Africans won by 5 wickets remaining. The team fought the battle with spin bowling as well as with pacers and finds a solution to exactly triumph the game. Losing the toss, they fielded while Sri Lanka batted first. They didn’t go far with the batting score and lasts with 193 as a total. All their batsmen became the prey of Rabada and Shamsi. Shamsi being the spinner took 4 wickets at an economy of 3.88 runs per over.

From Sri Lankan side, top three batsmen scored the total of 15 runs. Only the big partnership of 92 runs between Kusal and Thisara Perera gave them some hope. They target the new boy Willem Mulder who conceded 34 in 3 overs. Thisara Perera holds his team’s score to some extent but, couldn’t make a half-century when he was caught by de Kock and bowled by Shamsi. Afterwards, Kusal was joined by Akila Dananjaya and resulted in 38 runs partnership.

“It wasn’t the best day but we have four more games to bounce back,” said Sri Lank’s captain Angelo Mathews. Next is the 2nd One-Day International on 1st August, Wednesday again on the same ground Dambulla. The two sides will also play only T-20 International on 14th August.
